David Hungerford, MDJune 3, 2009 — On May 12,
the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved
the Bryan Cervical Disc (Medtronic; Memphis, Tennessee)
for replacement of diseased or bulging cervical disc at the
C3 to C7 level that is causing radicular, intractable neck or arm pain.
This device is constructed of 2 primary titanium pieces separated by a polyurethane part. After surgical removal of the diseased disc, the new cervical disc device is positioned in milled pockets in the adjacent vertebral bodies. The approved indication for use is to replace a cervical disc from C3 to C7 once it is removed in patients who have failed at least 6 weeks of conservative therapy for intractable radiculopathy and/or myelopathy secondary to disc degeneration or herniation. Anticipated outcomes from device implantation include pain relief and improved function.
Like a spinal fusion procedure, this device is intended to improve postoperative stability of the operated cervical level. Unlike conventional spinal fusion, however, the cervical disc device is intended to allow motion at the operated spinal level.

  1. Dear Dr. Muni,

I am hoping to include IntraNerve to the list of IONM companies on the Neuromonitoring Companies in USA Blog. We are a sister company of RITON and PRN Read, both of which are included on the blog.

Currently we assist on cases in Arizona and are on-call in hospitals in Georgia. We are hoping to expand into the District of Colombia and Maryland area and Alaska in the very near future.

We are working on developing our website for IntraNerve and will have our career, application, and HR page up and running shortly. The website can be accessed at
    http://www.intranerve.com/

Also, in regards to our sister company RITON, the blog has us listed as Riton, Midwest. In fact RITON operates in Montana (RITON, Montana), Iowa (RITON, Iowa), Wisconsin (RITON, Midwest), and California (RITON, West). Would it be possible to change the name on the blog from Riton, Midwest to simply RITON? The website address/link also needs to be changed from http://ritonmidwest.com/ to http://www.ritoniom.com/.

If this email has reached the wrong individual, I apologize. However, this was the only address linked to the Neuromonitoring Companies in USA Blog.

    Respectfully,

    Glenn Sommerfeld
